Every Youth Deserves a Trained Leader
Basic Leader Training is a seamless training program that helps leaders easily graduate through the courses quickly and with minimal duplication. It begins with Fast Start training, continues through "This is Scouting" (formerly New Leader Essentials), and is followed by Leader Specific training for each adult's role in the unit.
Youth Protection Guidelines training is required of all registered adults in Scouting regardless of position or Scouting function.
What Makes a Trained Leader?
Cub Scout Leaders are considered trained when they have completedFast Start for their position, "This is Scouting" (formerly New Leader Essentials), Cub Scout Leader Specific training for their position and Youth Protection Guidelines.
Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are considered trained when they have completed, Fast Start, "This is Scouting" (formerly New Leader Essentials), Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills and Youth Protection Guidelines.
Troop Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed "This is Scouting" (formerly New Leader Essentials), Troop Committee Challenge as their Leader Specific training, and Youth Protection Guidelines.
Varsity Scout Leaders and Assistants are considered trained when they have completed "This is Scouting" (formerly New Leader Essentials), Varsity Scout Leader Specific Training, Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills and Youth Pretection Guidelines.
Venturing Crew Advisors, Assistant Advisors, and Crew Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed "This is Scouting" (formerly New Leader Essentials), Venturing Leader Specific Training, Youth Protection Guidelines, and Youth Protectino Guidelines for Venturing Leaders.
Sea Scout Skippers, Mates, and Ship Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed "This is Scouting" (formerly New Leader Essentials) and Sea Scout Leader Specific Training, Youth Protection Guidelines, and Youth Protection Guidelines for Venturing Leaders.
