Why Inventory Membership?
Each year at this time an effort is made to inventory all youth and adults registered as members in packs, troops, crews, ships and posts. New youth and adults recruited this fall are expecting to participate fully in Scouting programs, including rank advancements. If their joining applications have not been submitted to the Council Service Center, those new recruits are not yet Scouts and are not eligible to participate.
It is essential applications are submitted immediately upon joining and not held until charter renewal. The recharter process is designed and timed to renew existing unit charters and individual memberships. Holding applications until recharter time means Scouts and leaders recruited in the fall will not become members until February or March.
Unit leaders should have their list of active Scouts and leaders handy. Be prepared to compare that list with the roster from registration services when a council volunteer calls.
