Cape Cod & Islands Council News
A Word From the President
Over the next three months, the Executive Board, through four sub-committees, each with its own Chair, will be gathering their ideas, along with input from the broader Scouting community, to prepare a 5 year Strategic Plan for the Cape Cod and Islands Council. This is a mandatory project for each Council required by National and needs to be submitted by the end of January 2011. The six areas of focus in the Strategic Plan are: Governance, Financing, Program and Services, Talent Management, Marketing and Administration Services. This plan will assist the Executive Board, our Scout Executive and our two Senior Youth Serving Executives to present quality programs, support, services and facilities to all Units in our Council, within the confines of available funding. Since we are planning for the next 5 years, don’t be surprised if you see some forward looking ideas surface within the contents of the plan!
Funding from Scouts, Scouters and the community at large is what allows our Council to provide everyone with the range of programs that we do along with maintaining and upgrading our outstanding facilities at Camp Greenough and the Council office. I am happy to say that, even in this downturn in the economy, contributions have not fallen off the face of the earth. However, please take another look at your financial situation in the last quarter of this year to see if you can contribute just a little bit more too both the F.O.S. (Friends of Scouting) and the Council Endowment Fund. While the Family Division, Executive Board and Major Gifts sections of the F.O.S. are just about on plan for the year, the Community Division is only at about 25% of its goal. Also, our Endowment Campaign, "100 for the 100th" is just below 50% of its goal of $100,000. Please reconsider your gifting for the remainder of this calendar year and contact the Council office on how to process your gift. And, if you have community contacts or know of businesses that are supportive of Scouting on Cape Cod, please ask them to consider contributing this year.
I am very grateful for the support that I have received from all quarters during the first six months of my Presidency, and look forward to continue serving you to the best of my ability over the remaining eighteen months of my tenure.
John Follas
President
