The President's Minute

March – 2012

Spring is a time of renewal. The snow and cold of winter (not so much this year) will be a memory, flowers will bloom and the world seems new again. With warmer and longer days, many will once again start to think about doing more outdoor activities. While making your plans, please add council events as many are great opportunities to make new friends from all over our council.

To our Webelos II scouts that have earned the Arrow of Light, I hope to see you at the Council’s recognition for this honor on March 28th at Camp Greenough. Leaders please make sure that all information is into the council office before March 16th of those Scouts who have earned the arrow of light to ensure that the Scouts receive their invitation.

We will recognize our volunteers for all that they do for our units and council. Check the event information of March 17th on the web site. This program is a BIG round of applause for all they do!!!. So mark your calendar. To all our dedicated volunteers, I would like to say thank you for keeping scouting alive, well and moving towards a better tomorrow for our youth.

Did you know that Sea Scouts are celebrating their 100th anniversary? Happy 100th!!! The Sea Scout Motto is: “To guard against water accidents. To know the location and proper use of the lifesaving devices on every boat I board. To be prepared to render aid to those in need. To seek to preserve the motto of the sea, Women and Children first”. To ships 40,72,75 & 76. I wish you the best and many, many more years of fair winds.

Beaver day is coming on May 5th; hopefully every unit will take part in this event as camp is for everyone’s enjoyment.  As the old saying goes “leave it better than you found it”. Your help is needed due to a lot of storms this past year. Camp needs our TLC. Last year we had 524 people attend beaver day weekend.  Hopefully we can surpass that this year.

Looking for some summer fun? It will be waiting for you at summer camp. The Council offers: Cub Camp, Project North Star, Ultimate Greenough and a Webelos overnight. Please check the council’s web site and sign up!!!! I have been told that there may be some big fish to catch and great wood crafts to be made. Hope you’ll join in and have fun in the summer sun.

Calling all Scouts, remember to make plans to attend the National Jamboree during the summer of 2013. Get ready to be the first Scouts to attend at its new location, The Summit in West Virginia.

Till I see you on the trail, be safe, be prepared and may the Great Scoutmaster of all Scouts be with you.

Yours in Scouting

Bob MacGregor
