Adventure By The Sea

for young adults ages 13 and over

Scout with Bike

Cape Cod - 400 square miles of woodlands, dunes, marshland and beaches surrounded by Cape Cod Bay to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Nantucket and Vineyard Sounds to the south, and the Cape Cod Canal to the west. World renowned for its beautiful beaches, Cape Cod is a region rich in historical, natural and recreational resources.

In order to provide an opportunity for older Scouts, Venturers and other young adults to explore and experience this unique area of the country, the Cape Cod and Islands Council has created the Cape Cod Maritime Adventure Program. Itineraries include a wide variety of exciting and challenging activities that are sure to thrill and inspire every participant.

Cape Cod Maritime Adventure is open to Scouts, Venturers and other young adults who are age 13 by September 1st of the year of participation. Crew size is 6 to 11 persons, including adult leadership.

Program Highlights

Several pre-planned programs are available - but these are only guidelines to illustrate the variety of experiences available. We pride ourselves on being able to customize a trip to meet the particular goals and objectives of each crew. Our trained guide will lead you on your trip with program features that will include some or all of the following:

Biking - Your primary means of transportation is by bicycle. Cape Cod has miles and miles of bike paths and bike friendly roads. A typical day's ride is 10 to 15 miles. Bike along woodland trails that pass working cranberry bogs and kettle ponds; through scenic Cape Cod villages; along the shores of Cape Cod Bay and Atlantic Ocean beaches and through the sand dunes of the Province Lands.

If you have a broadband connection and the Flash Player® plugin installed, start our Maritime Trek presentation for a glimpse of the adventures that await you.

Boating - set sail into Cape Cod Bay for an overnight cruise; slip your kayak into a saltwater tidal pond, paddle across pristine salt marshes, tidal rivers, coves and protected bays.

Camping - camp where no other visitors can go! Cape Maritime has obtained special permission for camping within the Cape Cod National Seashore, the Islands and at other locations on Cape Cod.

Fishing/Shellfishing - Dig for clams, pull a lobster pot and cast your line from the beach into the Atlantic surf where the REALLY BIG ONES hide!

Whale Watching - there is nothing like the thrill of viewing one of natures largest creatures up close in their natural habitat.

Island Hopper - Board a ferry to two of the most sought after destinations in the world, the Island of Martha’s Vineyard and the Island of Nantucket.

....and, much, much more!
