Date: October 21, 2017

Details

On October 21, 2017 the Cape Cod and Island Council, Boy Scouts of America is sponsoring the annual ‘Jamboree on the air ‘an international scouting event also known as JOTA. The Barnstable Amateur Radio Club along with its members and other ham operators are organizing the event. The event will be held at the pavilion at Camp Greenough. The event will begin at 9:00 AM Saturday Oct 15th and continue into the evening.  JOTA is a ham radio communication event where boy scouts, girl scouts, cub scouts and venturers will communicate with fellow scouts and scouters throughout the world with the assistance of licensed radio operators running the ham radio stations. This will give scouts the ability to see what ham radio has to offer. They will see the equipment needed to make radio communications and the various antennas needed to achieve their goals.

We will be operating radios on different modes including voice, Morse code, and digital modes with the use of computers. There will be also literature on display for scouts to observe and other activities to participate in.

On Saturday Oct. 21 we will be conducting a Radio Merit Badge workshop for those scouts interested in obtaining the merit badge during the event.

Pre registration is required, and the cost is $15.00 for the materials. The workshop will begin at 9:00 AM at the Administration building.

Our Rifles will be available for practice During JOTA from 1-4pm each day. Scouts, leaders, and others who are at least 11 years of age and attend a 1:00 pm Safety Briefing in the Dining Hall.  Scouts who attend either practice session will nothave to attend a Friday night safety Class for rifle shooting during Turkey Shoot.
