Are you looking for something different? Or maybe you're having
a hard time matching the classes you want with
the ones you need. This program may be able to
help.
The Extreme Physical Education program
was created to help high school students complete their physical
education (PE) requirements while giving them opportunities to explore
activities outside of the usual high school curriculum such as archery,
mountain biking, kayaking, and Project COPE - a ropes course.
All sessions are held at Camp Greenough, a 300-acre property in
Yarmouth Port owned by the Cape Cod & Islands Council, Boy Scouts
of America. The program gives participants an overview of four different
areas:
- Archery
- Project COPE
- Mountain Biking
- Kayaking
Participants will be divided into groups of no more than 12 per
group. Each day will be devoted to a different subject. Two instructors
will work with each group.
This program is scheduled to take place after school hours. Participation
may allow students to free up a class period during school hours
that may have been needed for a PE class. Check with your school's
guidance department for more information. This increases the opportunity
for other academic subjects.
This particular program is part of a subsidiary corporation of
the Boy Scouts of America called Learning for Life and is open to
students in grades 8-11.
The following schools have agreed to offer credit for participation
in this program:
- Dennis-Yarmouth High School

Archery

Students will learn the basics of shooting a bow and arrow using
modern equipment. As their skill develops they will be faced with
more challenging targets. Safety is paramount.
Mountain Biking

Over the river and through the woods won't get you to Grandmother's
house in this course, but it will give you a good workout. Safety
and maintenance will also be covered. |
