CORI requirements to help protect our youth
In an effort to be more thorough and accurate with
the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background
screening process, the Massachusetts Criminal History
Systems Board has instituted new requirements.
The new requirement is to verify each applicant's
identity by viewing a photo id such as a drivers license
or passport. A photocopy of the ID must then be attached
to the CORI Request Form. This will help to ensure
that an accurate background check is done by eliminating
any guesswork about people with similar names, addresses,
and birth dates.
To facilitate this process we are asking you to do
the following:
- For New Leaders (not presently registered):
All new leaders need to complete the CORI Form which
can be downloaded below. Note that this form is
to be reviewed and signed by the Committee Chairman.
Please forward this form along with the completed
BSA Volunteer Leader application to the Council
office.
- For Leaders that are presently registered:
The Council will collect the new CORI information
for leaders presently registered as part of the
unit charter
renewal process. Each unit will be asked to collect
copies of photo id's and complete the new CORI form
at that time.
It would be a good idea to check with your sign up
night locations to see if a photocopier could be made
available for this purpose. The easier we can make
the application process will be to everyone's benefit.
Your cooperation will help to keep Scouting a safe
program for children.
